I have been able to demonstrate with lab testing over the last 35 years many thousands of allergic patients that the majority of these individuals are simply not producing adequate amounts of adrenal gland hormones.  Allergies caused by adrenal insufficiency can readily be identified by either hair mineral analysis or adrenal saliva testing.  As a general rule, the hair analysis will show in these individuals very low sodium and potassium levels and the ratio of sodium to potassium is also very low (less than 2.5 to 1).  This is always suggestive of significant adrenal exhaustion and although; we can certainly stop the allergic response to any of these substances using the non-invasive AllerCease™ technique, a more holistic approach should also be considered, this involves correcting the chronic underlying nutritional and biochemical imbalances with tissue specific vitamins, minerals and amino acids.  It may also require detoxification of heavy metals which block normal physiological functioning and interfere with the synthesis of cortisol and other adrenal hormones.

Sometimes the problem is that the adrenal gland is not receiving adequate stimulation from the pituitary to produce ACTH (adrenocorticotophic hormones), and it is the sympathetic nervous system that is responsible for this phenomenon.  In many allergic individuals, the sympathetic nervous system has becomes exhausted from a variety of stressors.  Additionally, it is toxicity, resulting from this adrenal insufficiency, that causes protracted overstimulation of the sympathetic nervous system until it can no longer function adequately.  Incidentally, copper toxicity is often involved as a principle cause of brain or cerebral allergies and a deficiency of copper often results in a lowering of calcium in the tissues (not the blood), and this contributes greatly to excessive histamine-type allergies.

I believe many individuals suffer from a copper imbalance which is not detectable with a standard blood serum test but is on a hair mineral analysis.  Many times food allergies can be traced to the relatively high copper content of certain foods such as wheat, molasses, corn, soy, chocolate and shellfish.  I believe it is more than just a coincidence that these particular foods are among the most common ones causing allergies.

In summary, I would recommend that patients with chronic or severe allergies of any kind do an adrenal saliva test and/or a hair mineral analysis to receive maximum benefit and full restoration of their health.

Many years ago while practicing as a Chiropractor and Holistic Doctor in Pennsylvania, I was treating a 45 year old commercial airline pilot for low back pain; and while I was treating him for his back, he mentioned that he had just lost his job.  He had started flying from NYC to Australia and back with a major carrier when he developed severe dizziness, vertigo and disequilibrium for no apparent reason.  To try and get to the bottom of his symptoms, he saw many different medical doctors and specialists that put him through intensive medical evaluations and tests with no results because no pathology or etiology could be found.  Nevertheless, he was deemed unsafe to fly in view of his symptoms; and because it could not be proved to be a job related injury, he was dismissed with no pay.

Most of the patients I’ve seen over the last three decades did not have full blown Celiac disease. More commonly, they were suffering from what i call “the gluten sensitivity syndrome” and typically had symptoms that included abdominal pain, bloating, gas and bowel disturbances such as constipation, diarrhea and cramping, etc..

Within the intestinal wall are several enzymes called ‘brush border enzymes’ which are critical for normal gluten breakdown. It has been theorized that if sufficient quantities of these enzymes were supplemented gluten sensitivity could be minimized or even prevented.

One of the key enzymes required for the breakdown of peptides in Gluten has been identified as ‘dipeptidyl peptidase IV. The lack of this enzyme activity in the small intestine prevents digestion of the peptide fragments, which if left undigested, elicit immune responses that inflame the lining of the small intestine.

In our practice we have used successfully a product called Enteromend; it increases the activity of the ‘brush border enzymes’ and addresses cross reactivity by including a full spectrum of enzymes that digest fats, proteins, and carbohydrates; it also digests milk protein and boosts pancreatic activity.

Enteromends enzymes were selected for there broad PH stability, there strong anti-inflammatory capacity, there ability to effectively treat symptoms of food intolerance/allergies. All normal human cells have a negative magnetic charge: when human tissue is substantially stressed (physically or chemically) from any source it often reverses to a south or positive magnetic field (North seeking). Then, the tissue becomes acid PH and hypoxic; there’s less enzyme-level activity, more inflammation and less immunity. A positive magnetic field is stressful and can not heal the human body! According to Dr. William Philpott’s extensive research ( and i have experienced this clinically), with frequent exposure it will raise endorphin levels and become addicting.

Research has also confirmed beyond any doubt that, among other things, a positive (North seeking ) magnetic field is conducive to the production of hostile microorganisms and cancer. Furthermore, it blocks the production of melatonin. Because it is also vasodilative and acid-hypoxic, it is not suited for the treatment of edema and bleeding areas from acute injuries. Nearly three decades have passed since Dr. William Phillpott, M.D., Ph.D proved with numerous case studies and indispensable research that all the above syndromes are simply degrees of the same brain disorder and that all of these brain disorders are due to viral infections. The virus that he consistently found were always in the Herpes family. Eg. Epstein-Barr, Cytomegalo, and Herpes #6. The treatment must also include avoidance, rotation or desensitization to the offending foods as well as chelation of any heavy metals. Additionally, it would be the better part of wisdom or common sense to broadly test for deficiencies in vitamins, minerals, amino acids or essential fats.
